Why Volkswagen Oil Changes Matter

Why Volkswagen Oil Changes Matter: Longevity and Efficiency

Is it time for an oil change from your VW dealer? What exactly does changing out the oil do for your engine? It makes a big difference both to the efficiency and longevity of your Volkswagen, and we'd like to explain why. Why an Oil Change From Your VW Dealer Matters What Oil Does Oil is a simple thing and really quite old technology when it comes to the combustion engine, but the reason we still use it is because there's nothing better. Your engine is a very hot, wild environment where metal is moving constantly. All the parts in your engine need to be protected, and that's what oil does. Oil provides a thin sheen of lubrication that stops the metal from grinding on metal. But that's not all your oil does to protect the engine. Engines are also hot, and while your coolant system is the main component designed to deal with that heat, oil actually also removes heat as it passes through the engine. And as it's passing through, oil picks up all the microscopic metal shavings that are generated by the explosions and movement in the engine as well as the dirt and grime that naturally get in there from the outside. Finally, oil provides rust protection and some protection against corrosion from road salt and chemicals (particularly modern synthetic oils). more How Oil Changes Help When you get your oil changed, you also get your oil filter changed. The filter removes all of those metal shavings and bits of dust that we mentioned above from the oil, but as time goes along, that oil filter fills up. As it does, the oil itself has more and more crud in it and can't do its job as effectively. The constant heat to which the oil is exposed slowly begins to break down even the hardiest of synthetic oils, and once it begins to break down, it can't cool and protect your engine the way it's supposed to. Oil changes keep fresh oil running through your engine at all times. This keeps your engine from running too hot and also keeps it clean and protected. When your engine runs hot, you burn more gas, so regular oil changes increase your efficiency. When your engine runs hot or when it's not well protected, it's simply harder on the engine in general. The more frequently you go for extended periods without changing the oil after you should, the more strain you put on the engine and the shorter its life will be, all other things being equal. Oil does a lot to protect your engine, so if it's time for your Volkswagen to get service, schedule service with us at Ewald Volkswagen of Menomonee Falls, WI today.

2024 Volkswagen Safety Innovations

2024 Volkswagen Safety Innovations: Stay Protected

IQ.DRIVE is an innovative suite of safety systems that help protect you and your passengers. Its various systems warn of potential dangers and can actively intervene when required to prevent an accident. We're going to look at some of these VW safety features and see how they operate. VW Safety Features That Protect You on the Road Travel Assist This feature helps reduce driver strain by providing steering, braking, and acceleration when you need it. You can set the following distance, and the system uses radar and a camera to identify a vehicle ahead and its distance from our bumper. If the vehicle brakes, your VW will reduce speed to maintain its programmed safe distance. Travel Assist detects the lane lines using a camera, then controls steering to keep you centered until you intervene. It's also able to apply emergency braking if needed to prevent a collision and will intervene if something happens and you're unable to control your vehicle. The system will bring you to a controlled stop and contact emergency services for you. more Active Blind Spot Monitor This system uses sensors to scan the sides and rear of your VW and watch for vehicles. These areas are blind spots you can't easily watch, making them potentially dangerous, especially during lane changes. If a vehicle is detected, you receive visual and audio warnings. When you activate a direction indicator, this feature instantly warns you if another vehicle is present in that lane. This allows you to brake or take other action to avoid a collision. If you don't react fast enough, this feature counter-steers to turn your VW back toward your lane center. If required, it can also engage emergency braking. Lane Assist It's relatively easy to stray across the lane lines, particularly if you're tired or distracted. Unfortunately, this can cause an accident if a vehicle is already in that lane. This feature uses a camera to identify the lane line markings. Once identified, you'll receive warnings if your wheels are about to cross into a neighboring lane and you're not actively steering. The system will counter-steer to bring you back into your lane and away from danger. It's automatically active at speeds above 35 mph. Rear Traffic Alert Sensors located in your VW's rear watch the area directly behind you and to the left and right. They can detect approaching vehicles that will pass behind you. You'll hear a warning chime and an indicator will appear on your screen to identify the vehicle's direction. This enables you to brake quickly and prevent a collision. The system can also hit the brakes for you if you don't respond fast enough. If you'd like to know more about the systems in your VW, contact us today at Ewald Volkswagen of Menomonee Falls in Menomonee Falls, WI.

Volkswagen Battery Replacement

Signs Your Volkswagen Battery May Need Replacement

A dead battery is a major headache for any driver, and it will always seem to happen at the worst possible time. A battery usually shows warning signs that something is wrong, giving you enough time to replace it at your VW dealer.  We'd like you to know a few signs you may need to visit us for a new car battery. Signs You Need a New Car Battery From Your VW Dealer Dim Lights Dim lights could mean your headlight bulbs are worn, but could also mean your battery is weak. The average lifespan for a battery is three to five years, although this can be reduced due to environmental factors or electrical system issues. You can easily test your battery strength by checking headlight brightness when your engine is switched on, then repeating the test with your engine switched off. If the headlights are equally dim in both situations, your battery is fine.  If the headlights are brighter when the engine is running, your battery is weak and needs to be tested. We'll connect your battery to our computerized battery tester. This machine can determine if your battery is still strong or on its way to failing. We can install a new battery in minutes, if needed, to fix this problem. more Swollen Battery Case Extreme heat or cold can cause serious battery damage relatively quickly. A battery contains sulfuric acid, copper plates, an electrolyte solution, and other components that enable it to store and supply electricity. If you look at your battery and the case appears warped or distorted, your battery is failing due to extreme weather. Drastic temperature affects the electrolyte consistency. If the temperature is too high, the electrolyte can boil off. This causes the copper plates to buckle and wreck the battery. The internal pressure created by the burning distorts the case. Very low temperatures freeze the electrolyte, increasing its size and forcing the battery case outward. We can't repair this type of damage, but we can install a new battery for you. Damaged Alternator The battery uses a large amount of its stored electricity to start your engine. Once your engine is running, a mini generator called the alternator begins recharging the battery. A healthy alternator recharges the battery at full power for ten minutes, then switches to recharging at 10% power until the battery is charged. A damaged alternator might not switch to reduced charging and will continue to charge at full power. This causes the battery to overheat, and the electrolyte will boil. If this happens, you smell a strong chemical smell from under the hood. We'll replace the damaged alternator and test your battery to ensure it's still in good condition. If you have a battery problem, contact us ASAP at Ewald Volkswagen of Menomonee Falls, WI

This model comes equipped with an impressive array of standard and available safety systems designed to anticipate and react to a wide variety of driving conditions. For those concerned about winter's icy surprises, these features are not only helpful—they are essential. more One of the standout features is the IQ.DRIVE suite, which bundles advanced driver assistance technologies such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and forward collision warning. These systems are constantly scanning the environment, ensuring that your vehicle stays on course even as snow flurries make visibility more challenging. The forward collision warning system can detect obstacles on the road and give a timely alert, while the automatic emergency braking system can take over if the driver does not react quickly enough. All-Wheel Drive Confidence Winter weather demands more than just winter tires. It requires a vehicle that adapts to slippery surfaces with ease. The 2024 Atlas Cross Sport offers an available 4Motion® all-wheel-drive system, which distributes power to all four wheels, providing better traction when road conditions are unpredictable. Whether it's snow, slush, or ice, this system maximizes stability, ensuring your safety even when roads become slick. By intelligently adjusting power to each wheel, the Atlas Cross Sport offers a confident grip on the road, especially in areas where traction might otherwise be compromised. Designed for Tough Conditions When considering winter driving, comfort should not be sacrificed for performance, and Volkswagen has seamlessly combined both. The higher ground clearance of the Atlas Cross Sport ensures that it can navigate through deeper snowdrifts without scraping the undercarriage, while the vehicle’s wide stance provides excellent stability. The SUV's rugged design, paired with a well-balanced suspension, allows it to glide over snow-covered roads with relative ease, making every winter commute safer and smoother. Enhanced Visibility for Winter Driving Winter often brings short days and limited sunlight, making visibility a crucial safety factor. The Atlas Cross Sport takes this into account with features designed to help you see—and be seen—clearly. Standard LED headlights provide bright, focused illumination, cutting through the gloom of winter fog or snowstorms. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with available rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlights, ensuring that visibility is optimized without the need for manual adjustments. The heated side mirrors further enhance visibility in snowy conditions, preventing dangerous ice build-up that could block your rearview. These thoughtful touches demonstrate Volkswagen’s foresight in addressing the unique challenges winter poses for drivers. Smart Technology for Added Protection Technology serves as a powerful ally in keeping you safe on winter roads. The 2024 Atlas Cross Sport includes the Volkswagen Car-Net® system, which offers remote access to key features of the vehicle. This includes tracking the car’s location, remotely locking and unlocking doors, and checking tire pressure. In the winter months, ensuring your vehicle is properly maintained—down to the tire pressure—is crucial for optimal performance, especially when facing cold temperatures. Additionally, the Blind Spot Monitor helps prevent accidents when changing lanes, an especially beneficial feature when road conditions reduce your visibility. Should you fail to notice another vehicle in your blind spot, the system will provide an alert, allowing you to make safer driving decisions. Leasing vs Buying a Volkswagen

Leasing vs Buying at Your Volkswagen Dealership

When it comes to the important decision of leasing vs buying your next vehicle, the choice can be overwhelming. Both options offer pros and cons, which vary depending on your ownership goals and budget. In this guide, we'll help break down your options so you can be prepared before visiting your Volkswagen dealership to find your next ride. Leasing vs Buying at Your Volkswagen Dealership How Financing Works Some people have the funds to purchase a new vehicle outright, but most consumers provide a down payment, trade-in, or both, and finance the rest of the cost with an auto loan. The interest rate is based on your credit score, and you'll agree to make monthly payments toward the principal balance and interest of the loan until it's paid off, at which point you will become the vehicle's legal owner. Benefits and Disadvantages of Financing Financing offers many benefits: no mileage restrictions, no extra charges for wear and tear, and you can resell or trade your car in whenever you want once it's paid off. It's also a great option if you aren't concerned about driving the latest model. However, the monthly payments are usually higher than leasing fees, the cost might limit your options, and you'll be on the hook for all maintenance costs. How Leasing Works When you lease a new vehicle, you agree to possess it for a set length of time: typically three years or less. Similar to financing, you'll pay a monthly fee for the duration of the term, though the fees are usually much lower. At the end of the period, you can purchase the vehicle, or return it for a new one, but keep in mind you may not be able to negotiate the price much when buying out a lease. Benefits and Disadvantages of Leasing Leasing is a more affordable way to enjoy a new vehicle and allows you to try it out for a while before committing to ownership. In addition to lower monthly payments, leases typically cover most of the maintenance costs during the term, but you will be charged for any wear and tear. Most leases restrict how many miles you can drive during the leasing period, and will charge you for exceeding the limit. Leasing long-term is more costly than buying, and ending a lease early can result in a large penalty.
